Short Tandem Repeats was born out of friendship, science, and a shared love for music. The band originated within the
Biotechnology program at Wageningen University, where a group of friends discovered—almost by accident—that they had everything needed to form a band.
At a party in 2006, the realization hit: the lineup was already there.
Arnoud took his place behind the drums, Marc picked up the bass, Patrick delivered the screaming guitars, and Sjors stepped forward as lead vocalist. In 2011, Rob – a former bandmate of both Arnoud and Patrick – rejoined the fold, strengthening the band with a second guitar. Years later, the band was completed with the addition of Giovanni, the latest member to join, bringing new energy and depth on the keys.
What started as a spontaneous idea grew into a high-energy cover band with a wide-ranging repertoire. From classic pop and rock to modern hits, Short Tandem Repeats blends tight musicianship with pure fun—always focused on creating a great atmosphere and an unforgettable party.
